Hollywood, CA - The Muslim News Magazine Television Network announced today they will screen their new original documentary, 'The Legend of Timbuktu', beginning April 12 on MNM-TV. The film is a powerful look at the legendary empires of West Africa, their Islamic heritage and untold impact on world history.

Known as the 'Bilad al-Sudan' by Arab historians, which means 'land of the Blacks', the empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai became the first Sub Saharan people to accept Islam, early as 850 A.D.. The growth and prosperity that followed was unprecedented, spawning generations of great leaders and Islamic scholars.

'The Legend of Timbuktu' has been praised for its driving narrative, delivering the most current and up to date facts about West African history, including the rise and fall of Timbuktu. From great African leaders like Mansa Musa, who raised Timbuktu to new heights - to Mansa Abubakari, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America nearly 200 years before Columbus - this critically acclaimed documentary tells this African tale like never before.

"We are now living in a time when Africa evokes images of a wonderous history and Timbuktu is at the center of it all," stated Lon Muqaddin, who produced the documentary. "The story of this great city, it's leaders and how they changed the world should be seen by everyone."

The documentary was produced in association with the International Museum of Muslim Cultures, who maintains America's largest collection of Manuscripts from Timbuktu. These ancient documents represent the literate culture of West Africa uncovered! They reveal that a sophisticated, highly literate culture flourished in the City of Timbuktu beginning in the 14th century.

The IMMC will launch a national tour later this year, which will take these Manuscripts to cities across America. "The Legends of Timbuktu" documentary will screened at selected locations during the exhibit and MNM will also make it available on DVD for purchase.

"The documented knowledge that African Americans will learn, particularly the youth, of the literacy of their ancestors and the positive contributions they made to the global community will instill dignity and a sense of purpose, enhancing their sense of self-worth and pride," stated Okolo Rashid, Executive director of the IMMC. "The most significant benefit of the documentary and exhibit is that it begins correcting the misinformation and stereotypes in America about Africans and Muslims."

Beginning April 12, watch "The Legend of Timbuktu" exclusively on MuslimNewsMagazine.TV
